Behind every great man . . .

"Thou shalt not" is the beginning of wisdom.
But the end
of wisdom, the new law, is,
"Thou shalt."
To be Christian is
to be old? Not a bit of it.
To be Christian is to be reborn,

and free, and unafraid, and immortally young!
Joy Davidman (1915-1960)

I feel young ...

". . .And everybody used to tell me big boys don't cry
Well I've been around enough to know that that was the lie
That held back the tears in the eyes of a thousand prodigal sons
Well we are children no more, we have sinned and grown old
And our Father still waits and He watches down the road
To see the crying boys come running back to His arms
And be growing young
Growing young"

Oh man, Michael. How I used to sob and weep singing that song.

Preach it, bro. Said a few things about contrition here.

JV : yeah, still induces a tear in this wannabe monk too.
It's almost ten years since Rich went home.

Athos : Someone once pointed out to me that neither son really showed any love for the father; with us all, sometimes what we've lost is more the motivating factor, than the fact our sin hurts God.

This reminds me, you know Rich borrowed "growing young" from G.K. Chesterton? From somewhere in Orthodoxy. "For we have grown old, and our Father is younger than we." or words to that effect.

Rich had an interesting influence in leading me back to the Catholic faith, actually.

I guess you've heard "The Canticle of the Plains" about St. Francis?

I wish someone would make a more rawkin' Rich tribute CD
